Linda & Shearn Platt Open Rehearsals

The Linda & Shearn Platt Open Rehearsals are designed specifically for Middle and High School music programs. Open Rehearsals support music educators in their learning goals, encourage instrumental music in schools, and provide a direct connection between student musicians and professional musicians.

During a Linda & Shearn Platt Open Rehearsal for schools you can expect:

• A welcome from a San Diego Symphony staff member
• Seating for your entire class / school group
• An announcement from the stage welcoming your school and students

Note: If you are looking for programming for your elementary school students, please visit our Elementary School page for detailed information on programs that are appropriate for that age group. Due to the nature of these rehearsals, we recommend this program for students in grades 6 – 12.

OPEN REHEARSAL REGISTRATION

Please note the following:

• We ask that groups arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the rehearsal.
• Rehearsals will include a 20-minute break beginning approximately 60-90 minutes from the start of the rehearsal
• This is a working rehearsal, so we ask that students remain quiet throughout and hold all applause until the break or end of the rehearsal.

For rehearsals at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park:

• A rehearsal may be cancelled day-of if there is inclement weather.
• On very sunny days it is possible that the shade screen will be up in the morning. This is to protect the musicians' eyes. The shade screen will not affect sound but will block some views of the stage.
• Groups are more than welcome to bring food and drink, and there are filtered water fountains available in Jacobs Park.
• Photography is allowed, but visual and audio recording is prohibited.

For rehearsals at Jacobs Music Center:

• Please submit an Open Rehearsal Registration form to share your school’s interest in attending a San Diego Symphony Open Rehearsal at Jacobs Music Center. Our team will reach out to you as an opportunity to attend becomes available.
• Photography and visual/audio recording are prohibited inside the concert hall.

Please register at your earliest convenience. There are a limited number of opportunities for schools to attend an Open Rehearsal at Jacobs Music Center in October and December 2024, as well as January, March and May 2025.
