It's hard to believe but gratifying to observe that I am approaching half a decade as Music Director of the San Diego Symphony – which is cause for reflection.  Subscribers like you are the foundation of this great enterprise in which we provide to our community the highest-quality classical music, performed by a top-notch orchestra.  We renew our commitment to this aim and give you our thanks as you prepare to renew your subscription.

The Jacobs' Masterworks series presents fourteen programs of unparalleled classical music, with world-class visiting soloists and our own exemplary musicians.  We open with a Gala concert featuring stunning young Chinese pianist Lang Lang, and from then on the excitement never lets up.  In the 2008-2009 Season, you can revel to the strains of Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg’s Shostakovich Violin Concerto; help us welcome the pride of San Diego, guitar quartet The Romeros; delight in a concert featuring one of the foremost sopranos of the last 20 years, Kathleen Battle; and join us for piano performances by Pascal Rogé, Yefim Bronfman, and Jon Kimura Parker.  We are also pleased to inaugurate a Beethoven Festival in January, featuring concertmaster Jeff Thayer on violin and Jessie Chang at the piano.  And we will be bringing you Mahler, too: this season it's the "Tragic" Sixth, a majestic, magnificent opus and our latest installment in the Orchestra’s Mahler cycle.

Our Winter Pops, Family Festival, and Symphony Exposed series for 2008-2009 also have much excitement to offer, so please consider those concerts as well.
